SEALING AND CLEANING YOUR TILE GROUT

Sealing
Grout and natural stones should be sealed. For new grout or stone make sure it is clean and dry and free of debris before sealing. It is best to seal your grout or stone after a 48 hour drying time.
For the grout apply 2 coats with a sealer applicator or a squeeze bottle, which you can find at most home improvement centers, or small soft-bristle paint brush or sponge. Wipe off any excess sealer within 3 to 5 minutes of application. The second coat should be applied within 30 minutes. For sealing the stone tiles use a sponge mop or rags to apply the sealer, follow the above process on the stone as well. Be sure to keep the sealed area dry for 24 hours after application. You should be all right with light foot traffic within 30 minutes after applying the sealer.

Cleaning
For grout joints and tile, they must be clean, dry and free of existing sealers, waxes and grease. The easiest way to clean a ceramic tile floor is to scrub it with an electric floor washer or polisher-scrubber. Using a solution of 1/4 cup low-sudsing detergent, or 1 to 2 tablespoons of either washing soda or tri-sodium phosphate or commercial floor cleaning powder in 1 gallon of water then rinse well. Another method is to apply a solution of water and chlorine bleach (liquid or powdered). Let it stand for 20 minutes, then mop up the solution from the floor, rinse thoroughly and wipe it dry.
